Communications completes US 77 corridor Internet highway

Kansas-based company meets customer demand with service in Douglass and Akron

WICHITA, KS – With the completion of the final link, Pixius Communications, LLC (Pixius) now offers its reliable high-speed Internet service to business and residence customers in the highway US 77 corridor from highway US 56 on the north to just north of Arkansas City on the south, a distance of 90 miles. This represents new service availability in Akron, Bushnell, Dale, Douglass, Floral, Rock, Udall, Wilmot and the surrounding area, with upgraded service in Rose Hill, Mulvane and New Salem.

“When you listen to the market and to your customers, they will tell you where there is a need for new and improved service,” says Pixius Chief Executive Officer Jay Maxwell. “Although available data indicates there were service options, potential customers kept making inquiries about when Pixius would be available in their area. Those potential customers expressed a need for higher speed and reliable service, both of which Pixius delivers. We decided to make the investment and the timing could not have been better as a competitor decided to abandon the market shortly before Pixius’ launch. These customers would have been without any viable option for Internet had it not been for Pixius.”

For about the same price as cable or DSL, Pixius’ fixed wireless broadband solution, called eXtend,sm provides fast and reliable Internet access. Download speeds are in the range of 4 Mbps with bursts up to 18 Mbps, depending on the service option and other factors. Upload speeds are in the range of 1.5 Mbps. These speeds are minimums, as opposed to some competitors who advertise ‘up to’ rates that are seldom achieved. The service can be tailored to meet specific business needs, including very large data transport, remote or “campus” settings and secure private networks.

“These new sites are equipped with Pixius’ fourth generation technology which is designed to meet the customer’s needs now and well into the future,” says Maxwell. “Pixius will close the year with over 25% of the network on fourth generation technology. The US 77 corridor has the highest concentration of Pixius fourth generation technology, which means this area is ready to compete with many urban areas for economic growth opportunities.”

Pixius’ wireless broadband was launched in Wichita, KS in late 2002 and now provides service to over 7,000 customers in Kansas and Missouri. The service is delivered via a network of more than 75 communications towers.

The service works with all types of Internet products and tools, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and requires no special software. Pixius’ trained technicians can typically install the system within a week of order placement.
